If you have spent any time on our site you would’ve quickly noticed that we have a special fondness for big cats, and especially of course, jaguars. Since our earliest visits to the rainforests of Belize, we have been intrigued and inspired by these majestic animals.
As scientists, we always want to learn more, and for that reason we have not only set up trail cameras throughout central Belize, but are sharing that information with biology students at schools such as Talladega College in Alabama to better understand how we can assist in their conservation.
As educators, we want you to be inspired by learning more about our world. For that reason, we partner with experts around the world to provide you with opportunities to learn, and engage, with the wildlife of our planet.
November 29th is International Jaguar Day. To show our support, our #GivingTuesday campaign this year will give back to the jaguar conservation efforts at the Belize Zoo. The Belize Zoo is one of the premier jaguar conservation centers in Central America, and home to well-over a dozen jaguars. It is also home to the Human Jaguar Conflict Program (HJCP) that assists in relocating jaguars that have come in contact with human society.
Here is how this will work. From now through December 5th, we will be matching all big cat adoptions at the Belize Zoo. Not just the jaguars, but their margay, puma, ocelot and jaguarundi cousins that they share the rain forest with. For any of these big cats that you adopt, we will adopt a second one at the Zoo.
All you have to do is to visit the adoption link below and adopt one of these big cat species. These funds go not only to feeding and providing for these amazing animals, but also general conservation efforts associated with the big cat species.
The staff of the Zoo will be in contact with you to provide you with more information on your adoption.
I Want to Learn More!
