Inspiring Experiences
The You & The Zoo Experience
A Virtual EdVenture for Age 8-13 Explorers
August 7-11 , 2023
Together with our friends at the Belize Zoo we want to take YOU on an EdVenture like no other!
For 5 days this August you will join us on an EdVenture to explore the wonders of the jaguar. Worshipped by the Mayans, and the ambassador for rainforest conservation in Belize, these amazing animals have inspired us over the years, and we want to share that feeling with you.
Each day we will explore a different aspect of the jaguar biology, from what jaguars eat, to how to identify jaguars by their spots. This all culminates in a live virtual tour at the Belize Zoo with the true experts of jaguar conservation.
Our goal is that this Inspiring Experience will leave every explorer eager to learn more about the world around them.….. because that inspires us!

What You Can Expect Each Day of Jaguar Week
Day 1: Introduction to the Jaguar
We start our EdVenture with a look at what we know about jaguars from Professor Dave Cox, who has been leading student groups into the rainforests of Belize for almost 15 years. How has that inspired him to form these experiences, and what can you learn from his experiences?
Day 2: What do Jaguars Eat?
Today we explore the biology of the rainforest, and a look at the other big cats there that live with the jaguars, and some that the jaguars find as prey. This experience will build upon our trail camera project over the past decade, and what we have learned about rainforest ecology in the process.
Day 3: A Jaguar's Spots
How many jaguars are there in Belize? How do we know? Join our Program Director Kayla Windelspecht as she explores her journey to find out what our trail cameras are telling us, and why, as an ecologist, she thinks this is important.
Day 4: Protecting Jaguars
Today, Dr. Michael Windelspecht will take you on a journey through time on the importance of the jaguar to the Mayans, why that is important to the conservation of jaguar habitats in Belize. We will then explore how IE is involved with their partners in Belize, and more importantly, how you can personally get involved in this effort, not matter what your age!
Day 5: Virtual Tour of the Jaguars of the Belize Zoo
Today we will take an interactive virtual tour of the Belize Zoo, one of our Partners in Conservation and an inspiration to anyone who is fortunate enough to experience their love of jaguars and all of the animals of the rainforests. This tour will not only expose explorers to the wonders of jaguars, but also the other animals that call this small country their home. This tour will inspire any explorer to get involved, as it does for us every time we experience their mission.
