Our Animal of the Month for September 2022 is the jaguar (Panthera onca). The largest and most recognizable wild cat of the Americas, the jaguar is found in rainforests, savannas, and scrublands from Mexico to Argentina, and was once endemic (native) to the southwestern United States of America. These amazing cats have a long and rich history throughout their range, from the ancient Mayan Empire to the modern-day fight to protect jaguars and the forests they call home.
